	Description:	THE CANADIAN INDIAN OF TODAY (aka WIGWAMS aka BRITISH COLUMBIA WIGWAM STORY) A scenic look at Vancouver and a village of native Indians famous for knitting sweaters. Vancouver, Canada. L/S of a river with tree covered mountains in the background, there is a low building at the foot of them. L/S taken from the back of a boat, the 'Hollyburn' sailing along the river, we can see along the length of the boat which is full of people looking at the scenery. L/S of a big wooden building with a pointed roof, this is the Wigwam Inn by the side of the river, there is a jetty leading out from it, a small boat sails by and others are moored along the river. L/S of a mountain covered in trees and a big waterfall flowing down the middle of it into the river. There are houses on either side of it. M/S of two boys stood on the Capilano suspension bridge which is a very long, narrow wooden bridge, they are looking over into the river. The camera pans round to show the river underneath and the overhanging trees. M/S of a sign saying 'CAPILANO SUSPENSION BRIDGE' on a wooden gate, above it is a small totem pole with the figure of an eagle standing on a black fish with big teeth. M/S of another sign saying 'DO NOT RUN ON OR SHAKE THE BRIDGE' on a carving of a long bird. L/S looking along the bridge emphasising its length, one of the boys starts to run along it, L/S of this from a side angle, a dog is running in the opposite direction. L/S of a view over the river with mountains on each side, there are two brightly coloured totem poles in the foreground and a statue of a native Indian between them, there are also two red cartwheels beside them. A man is leaning on one of the totem poles looking at the view, two women walk up between the statue and the totem pole and round to a stripy shack with 'Hitching Post' on the front, there are more statues outside. M/S of a group of native Indian women and girls sitting round working. Some are using spinning wheels, and there is a little boy in the background banging a drum. The narrator tells us this is the village of Koksilah. A man in a feathered head dress walks among them and picks up a couple of logs. A large Indian lady wearing a feathered headband is sat in the middle, her name is Mrs Amelia Pat-Charlie and she is knitting a lambs wool Cowichan sweater. An Indian girl called Emily Elizabeth, aged 5, is sat by her holding the ball of wool. M/S of the group working. C/U of Emily holding the wool, she is wearing a feathered headband. The narrator says Mrs Pat-Charlie has knitted sweaters for celebrities like Bing Crosby and ex-President Truman. C/U of Mrs Pat-Charlie's face, the camera moves down to show her knitting a white and grey sweater. C/U of the ball of wool on Emily's lap as she unwinds it. C/U of Emily looking up and smiling. M/S of two girls on a carding machine, one girl is feeding the wool in, she is 9 year old Amelia Verlie. The other is turning the handle, she is Doris Sophie Mrs Pat-Charlie's 17 year old niece. C/U of the carding machine in action with a hand pressing the wool down. C/U of Amelia smiling, she is wearing a feathered headband. M/S of Doris at her machine, behind her is Margaret Rose working a spinning machine, she is Mrs Pat-Charlie's 27 year old daughter. C/U of Margaret spinning the wool on the machine. C/U of her hand feeding the wool evenly into the machine. M/S of three patterned sweaters hanging from a wooden bar. The camera moves across to three people stood round a car, two men are examining a sweater and a woman on the other side of the car is looking at a moccasin shoe, she is wearing a Cowichan sweater. There is a shoe rack on the right. M/S from the side of the car behind the woman, there are several pairs of moccasin shoes on the bonnet of the car. She puts one shoe down and picks up another. C/U of the shoe she is holding, it is creamy coloured with fringes and stitching round the front and top. There is a stitched red pattern on the front, she turns it round so the top is towards the camera.
