| Description: | "THE FALL OF NAMUR - British Troops capture the French fortress - a scene from the forthcoming Aldershot Tattoo." Aldershot, Hampshire. Men in uniforms of the late 17th Century storm the French stronghold of Namur in Belgium in this reenactment for the Aldershot military show. This was an action in the War of the Grand Alliance, also known as the War Of The League Of Augsburg , in which various European powers, including the British, sought to check the expansion of Louis XIV's France. The soldiers on the field have the guns and weapons of the period, and, after a row of cannons fire upon the town, the men charge the French fortress. They take the battlements. Cut to the French surrender, as troops march out from the entrence to the citadel. Drummers lead the defeated. More troops march out. | |
