| Description: | THE FINER POINTS OF DANCING Santos Casani and Jose Lennard demonstrate the right - and wrong - way of executing dance steps. The dancing champions demonstrate general tips and specific steps from popular dances, on a stage with Art Deco look. Some of the comments seem aimed at would-be competitive ballroom dancers. London M/S of two dancers - Santos Casani and Jose Lennard. They begin to dance. Dissolve into a longer shot. They look as if they are dancing in the Pathe studio. "Start well - a Judge always looks for a graceful and easy "hold" C/U of Jose's legs. The camera pans up to show how they hold each other. They slowly spin around to show the placing of the hands etc. "Don't lean on your partner - she wants a dance, not a weight-lifting exercise - " L/S of the couple as they show how it shouldn't be done. "The left-hand Feather Turn in the slow Fox Trot is the undoing of many. Correctly." L/S of the step performed correctly. "Now, incorrectly. (Feet too flat and too wide apart)" They dance clumsily. "In the Waltz - that pretty reverse turn." "Adam mustn't pull his partner about too much, nor should Eve step over with the left foot over the right, as is sometimes done - " Bad technique is demonstrated. "The Yale promenade - " This step is shown. "Judges watch for jerky steps - feet too far apart and movements uncontrolled. (A sort of "do or die effort"!)" Bad technique is shown. "If you like the fascinating Tango, dance it smoothly - " Smooth Tango ensues. "Don't hold yourself too stiffly, you're dancing for pleasure - not penance." The two Tango very stiffly. | |
