| Description: | THE GIRLS OF THE OLD BRIGADE Miss Beatrice Lillie introduces a few from the Little Theatre's Nine O'Clock Revue. Old fashioned outfits of the 1880s are contrasted with modern fashions of 1920s. LS Miss Lillie standing in front of a row of women in old-fashioned costumes (c. 1880s). While Miss Lillie wears a dress w/ a bustle and lace trim, the others are dressed in more sporty outfits - skirts and jackets - a couple even wear big baggy pantaloon type things which almost look like skirts but not quite. Lillie is talking to the women, then they drift apart and chat in smaller groups. Dissolve to MLS Lillie alone, speaking. She turns from side to side which shows off the rather astounding silhouette afforded by the huge bustle. Dissolve to shot of ornate 3 piece hinged screen; articles of clothing come flying over the top to suggest someone undressing. Dissolve to MLS Miss Lillie again in modern (1920s) dress, sleeveless, form-fitting w/ dropped waistline, and see-through lace overskirt, but the skirt nearly reaches the floor. Her hair is twisted into rings and pinned up. The Victorian ladies enter and gather around her, looking shocked and appalled, pointing at her clothes and making comments. MCUs of individual 1880s women apparently speaking their minds about this outrageous costume. Back to LS of all the women of the 1920s. Lillie turns around, drops a playful curtsy. LS Beatrice Lillie in long black gown, worn off the shoulders, platinum blonde wig w/ hair in braids wound in circles over the ears; she is doing a sort of bouncing dance & seems to be singing MCU same. "Where are the girls of the old Brigade? Where are the perfect cooks? Where are the girls who are not afraid Of the early maorning looks?" MCU more singing & bouncing. "Out in the cold hard world - of Bond Street." Shot on street of 4 of the women in Victorian dress walking down the sidewalk. The pantaloon pair come first, then a pair in skirts and jackets, carrying muffs; the spectators are stopped and staring at the costumed women as they enter a shop. | |
