| Description: | THE GRANITE MEN - FILMED AT DALBEATTIE, SCOTLAND Granite quarries near Dalbeattie, Scotland; good footage of workers and cliff collapse. Dalbeattie, Scotland Starts w/ WS moving to left past huge rock wall with a few small buildings at bottom. Another shot panning on cliff, moving over metal beams w/ pulley system. MLS elderly man stands bent over by detonator box; he pulls up then pushes down handle. Cut to WS explosion causing collapse of part of cliff, big cloud of dust rises from rocks. LS big pile of fallen rocks; the worker standing in front of them looks small. MLS 2 workers stand on top of a block of granite drilling into the top. MCU 2 workers poke metal rods into the shallow holes. MLS another worker pounding these sticks in with sledgehammer as a few other workers watch. Then they all go to work trying to pry 2 halves of the block apart. Another shot of this with 2 guys on top 2 at sides, all simultaneously using poles as levers to split the block. Long open-sided shed, with workers now working individually, hammering on blocks of granite. Cylinder of rock turning on machine and being cut; dissolve to same machine with the block now turned into a graceful looking curving pedestal or pillar. WS looking across hillside covered with rocks (smaller ones) and scattered sheds and workers; nice pastoral sort of hillside in BG. MS worker splitting c. 1 ft. cube; workers stacking smaller bricks in BG. WS of scene at foot of cut away hillside; cranes moving blocks, horse-drawn carts pulling loads away; and heads of 2 men in business suits in FG overseeing the process.
