| Description: | THE NEW YEAR BEGINS Celebration in Mysore, India. Parade in which the Maharajah rides from the Palace to the Temple. Wide shot panning on crowds waiting for the procession. Shot looking down as way is cleared for the procession; 4 drummers stand playing; behind them 4 men wearing pants over stilts to appear like skinny giants. Closer shot of the "giants" walking by. LS 4 men wearing military uniforms and turbans come riding side by side on horses. Shot from high up looking down at huge crowd; Union Jack hanging from high in FG, palace in BG. Soldiers marching out of large ornate gate. MLS soldiers march by to rt., carrying what look like decorated lances; drummers follow. Shot looking down at military band on horseback. Then 2 elephants w/ riders walk down the street. Closer tilt-down shot of men in simple uniforms walking in parade. Maharajah comes along riding on a big elephant w/ a seat on top which is almost a little house. LS horse guards. MLS the maharajah's litter, whose front and back seats each have a sort of domed roof. Wider shot of maharajah's elephant, then pan to more of parade following it, incl. guys carrying poles w/ circles on top decorated w/ spiral designs like weird giant lollypops. 2 elephants pulling a wagon full of c. 15 people. More costumed elephants. 2 big-horned animals (like cattle) pull a coach. Wide shot of the palace lit up at night by thousands of lights.
