| Description: | The White House Rose Garden is the scene of an unprecedented newsreel record as President Johnson briefs reporters before delivering his State of the Union message to Congress. Then there are last minute revisions with speechwriter Ted C. Sorensen before the President leaves for the Capitol with Mrs. Johnson. The President reveals to Congress that spending for the coming year would be less than $98 million -- a drop from last year of $500 million. On domestic issues he calls anew for Civil Rights and an attack on unemployment and the ever present problems of the poor. Announcing a 25% cutback in material for nuclear weapons the President had a warning to any aggressors. Washington DC Outside shot of the white house and President Johnson is standing at the podium addressing the press. MS Newspaper reporters taking down notes. MCUS - President Johnson at his desk in the oval office, and his aids stands behind him and two more men come into the room. MCUS - President Johnson gets up from his desk and leaves the room. MS - President Johnson leaves the White House and Mrs. Johnson (Lady Bird wearing a full length mink joins him. MS - President Johnson gets into a car that is taking him to the Capitol Building. MWS - Nice wide shot of the Capitol Building. Too bad its in black and white. MS - President Johnson pulling up in a Cadillac at the steps of the Capitol Building. MLS - President Johnson is greeted very warmly. MCUS - Lucy Bird and Lady Bird Johnson watching the proceeding's of addressing congress. President Johnson, "And this administration today here and now, declares unconditional war on poverty in America. And I urge this Congress and all Americans to join with me in that effort." (Applause) President Johnson announcing a 25% cut back in the production of material for Nuclear weapons, the president has a warning. President Johnson, "We shall neither act as aggressors, nor tolerate acts of aggression. We intend to bury no one. And we do not intend to buried." (Applause) | |
