| Description: | THE PRINCESS PASSES An episode in Bali, the Island Mysterious, Dutch Indies. " Funeral procession of unnamed princess in Bali, 1932. Bali LS tilt down over crowd walking in procession up road past villlage of houses with grass roofs; tall palm trees. People walk along, some carrying very tall striped poles, some others carry rice paper umbrellas on rather tall poles. MS men and boys, most wearing only sarongs and scarves tied round their heads, come out of doorway carrying the tall poles; doorway is decorated with intricate carvings. WS looking diag. over road at long procession. A bunch of women walk at the front, some carrying statues, etc. on their heads. MLS a line of people walk single file, carrying a long white strip of fabric over their heads as they pass into structure with tiled roof; there are lots of decorations everywhere. MLS women and girls walk in a line carrying all sorts of urns, bowls, etc. on their heads; some men and children stand on either side watching. LS tilt down long line of women walk single file through crowd, each carrying on her head a tray or covered dish on a sort of stand. The spectators are closely packed together here. MLS line of men climbing stairs of temple carrying the same things on their heads. There are statues of gods on either side of steps. MS more people coming out carved doorway carrying more stuff - flowers, food, etc. LS huge funeral float is pulled by lines of men. LS from side: part of float's very tall towers like pagodas reaching into the sky forever; guys are carrying stuff up onto these towers. WS very precaroius looking temporary stairway built on long narrow poles, going up into the air and stopping. Pan left to the float. Wider shot of towers. Shot of the stairs lined up with tower. They seem to be loading more stuff into the tower. | |
