| Description: | THE RIVALS Scenes of man, then woman, each catching alligators by hand in swamps in southern USA The South, United States MLS young man standing hip-deep in swamp water, with dense vegetation on ridges of land on either side, reaches down and grabs at something underwater. There is a wild struggle with lots of splashing. As he turns around we catch a glimpse of him grasping the alligator's jaws. He continues to wrestle with the creature, at once point it looks like he's straddling it and finally he's standing up holding the alligator above the water, with one hand holding its snout and the other arm holding it around the middle. A boat (a " pirogue" made from hollowed out log ) approaches through the bayou, poled by another young man, and stops so that the alligator catcher can get himself and his prisoner into the boat. His friend starts to use the pole to move the boat away again. The alligator looks to be c. 5 ft. long with tail. LS woman in swimsuit and bathing cap wades into water which is thick with alligators, in fact there are so many alligators that there's hardly room for her to walk. This is obviously a more controlled environment than the previous scene. There's a fence in BG, and some other structure beyond that - looks like some sort of zoo or park. MLS the woman squats, trying to pick up one of the alligators. The alligator flips over lengthwise, and the woman falls over with it. More struggling in the water. MS the girl poses holding the alligator in her arms, but not holding its mouth shut. She reaches up and pats it on the nose. | |
