| Description: | THE ROUNDHOUSE Cops Stop Experimental Play for Fire Code Violations. Experimental theatre "happening" at The Roundhouse in London, England. Hippie performance piece at the The Roundhouse in Camden, London. (experimental theatre, performance art, entertainment, bizarre, audience participation, actors, police) Scene from performance of unidentified play - or maybe it's more like performance art without a script. Anyway a bunch of actors wearing very little - -some in g-string- - are crowded in a circle sitting on the stage, beating on the floor and yelling while a woman in a bikini in the middle of the circle thrashes around, then scoots round on the floor hitting at the crowd around her. Like theatrical version of primitive rite. MS police officers entering doorway with words scrawled across door "Representation Means Mystification." Back to the play : MS the woman stops going wild and collapses. MS bare-chested man speaking to a police officer - -"I want you to know that I know that you have come in tonight and done something very destructive. ...deep deep destruction...and somehow I want you to feel it as much as I'm feeling it...." etc.. MS actors all lying in a tangle touching each other, while this is underway one of the performers is saying that the police are ordering the performance be stopped because of violations of fire laws. Various shots of audience (artsy types/ intellectual hippies in 20s - 30s) while the man ( bald on top with long fuzzy hair on sides) is explaining that the police say they will be allowed to continue if everyone takes their seats (he acknowledges that they may feel that that would spoil the momentum of their experience) - and that they will be allowed to have future performances if they remove the chairs. He says the cops are being reasonable and asks the crowd to find seats, and they'll talk to cops about what to do in future. MCU people applaud. LSs high angle over stage as cast and audience clear stage; people moving rows of chairs around etc. Everyone seems agreeable. | |
