| Description: | "The Tramp's Sacrifce"; 1910. (Cartoon of tramp in title frame looks like R. Crumb comic.) Rather convoluted drama/ melodrama. A girl meets her lover over garden wall, he gets caught however in a man trap set by the gardener and is released by a passing tramp who puts himself in the man's place and is caught having saved the girl from being found out. United Kingdom A few people outside a large house; a young man is saying goodbye; kisses hand of young woman; walks off w/ older man. The men walk through garden; shake hands; young man exits; the host suddenly notices a tramp who's sitting there on a rock; and speaks to him; but the tramp just sits there. Next; the young man hides a letter under a loose stone in the garden wall; exits. Young woman enters on other side of wall; finds note. We see a CU of note planning secret meeting. Girll blows kisses etc. Next; older man speaking to gardener on steps; then same 2 by wall. Title frame "The appointment! Ha! Ha!" w/ vague outline of sinister clown face BG. Young man comes along & is caught in jaws of a steel trap! He screams; girl rushes to him. Tramp hears scream & climbs over wall to the 2 frantic lovers. Tramp releases young man from trap. Meanwhile at the house; the other man comes out w/ pistol; hearing screams. The young man can barely walk to get away. The tramp then puts his own leg in the trap so that the young couple can leave safely w/o the man guessing who was caught. He arrives; finds tramp. Gardener brings police. | |
