| Description: | THE VICTORIA LINE Work on the Underground's Victoria Line. London. Camera pans across wasteland and construction sites. Narrator explains how underneath the skyscraper blocks of London an engineering revolution is taking place. Scenes of construction work as the London Underground Victoria Line is built. Men at work. Underground - segments of metal are put in place to make the sides of the tube tunnel. Narrator explains that progress is agonisingly slow - looks like hard work. "The human moles do it for the bumper pay packet" states the narrator. Segments of the roof are put into place. Life underground for the workers is compared to people sitting out in the sun above them - unaware of the work that is going on underneath them. People who walk along Oxford Street could never imagine what is going on under their feet. Some clay falls from the roof onto a man's back - it is soft clay so it doesn't hurt. One of the workers picks up a red fire bucket and drinks water from it. Nicely shot, some footage could be used as generic construction work shots. Most of the men have no shirts on, they all look very hot. | |
