| Description: | Theatre/music hall benefit performance for Earl Haig's Warrior's Day Fund; c. 1920. Title frame says Prince of Wales attended. MLS a few men & women stand in front of theatre (New Gallery Kinema in Regent St.); the women are selling programs. Veteran music hall star George Robey arrives in automobile; makes a silly face as he gets out. Another man with him. People arriving at the theatre; kids running toward entrance; a few bobbies on duty outside. MS Robey holds up poster: "The Entertainment World's Tribute to Ex-Service Men. Warrior's Day." He speaks to various people around; gestures w/ hat as if to say "Come on in" and sticks his tongue out again like making a raspberry. Shot from above of crowds outside theatre and the Burma Jewel Palace next door; cars and double-decker buses pass in FG. Crowd surges forward as one car arrives--can't see from this angle but it is probably the Prince arriving. British royalty; military; veterans; comedy; fundraising; actors. | |
