| Description: | MISSING 1/6/2006 Documentary showing the work of the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) during World War Two. Starts with short montage of England in peacetime showing horse riding, shepherd with dog, boy and mother feeding chickens, cows in farmyard. Intertitle: 'War Alters Everything - The protection of our animals must be our first care'. Shows an R.S.P.C.A. inspector rushing to help a milkman with horse drawn milk float (United Dairies) and unharness his horse during an air-raid. (Intercut with HE111 [Heinkel 111] bombers in flight). Shire horses seen being led from bombed stables and treated for minor wounds. 'Domestic Pets Are Not Forgotten' title card, with sequence of R.S.P.C.A. inspector rescuing cats from bombed building. Intertitle: 'The Animal Rescue League are able to trace the grateful owner' going on to show cats being reunited with their owner after tracing through the register. R.S.P.C.A. inspectors seen combing through bombed buildings to save caged birds and also dog buried in the rubble. They treat the dog for minor wounds. Sequence showing work of The National Canine Defence League. Animals taken from R.S.P.C.A. vans at various locations and taken into animal clinics and kennels etc. Van of the Animal Aid Welfare Club seen arriving at kennels in countryside. Dogs seen settling in and being treated, groomed, exercised etc. Then Intertitle requesting that all pet owners display notice clearly stating how many people are in a house and the number and location of any pets to aid rescuers. Short sequence showing "Bacchus" mascot dog of a French submarine. "2,000 hours submerged and never a whine". | |
