Tilt up to show the vast number of cans. "On film our yesterdays endure for generations to come." Narrator talks of how film is preserved from the very beginning of moving pictures. A woman in white with white gloves pulls out a nice shiny can and shows it to the camera. In the projection room, the projectionist loads a reel of film onto his projector. Interior of Pathe screening room. It is the 37th birthday party of the only weekly magazine in the world - Pathe Pictorial. The Pictorial is about to be made in colour, "but before saying goodbye to the black and white world..." some of the people who have appeared in the magazine have been invited to watch some of the old Pictorials. The actress Jean Simmons is a guest, as are Henry Hall and Jack Payne - the dance band leaders. Shots of the audience and projectionist. C/U of Terry Ashwood and Howard Thomas - Pathe producers.
