| Description: | THROWAWAY LINES (aka PAPER CROCKERY) Paper tableware is made at a factory then used for serving food. Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Good "how are things made" type story, showing people using disposable dinnerware and the paper plates, paper cups, etc. being manufactured. (disposable plates) Note: one of the factory workers seems to have a logo reading 'Cross Paperware' on her overalls. M/S of four people sitting around a dinner table with various pieces of paper plates etc. before them; one of the women stands up and 'clears the table' all in one move - -she gathers up the paper tablecloth with paper plates, cups, etc. and puts the whole lot into a trash bag in the kitchen, wiping her hands. At factory: shots of rolls of paper turning on large drums; several shots of paper doilies coming out of machine. Woman worker uses power tool to cut round edges of doilies. Good shots of strips of printed, patterned paper coming through various sorts of rollers, then pan on a rank of the long strips, now stretched out horizontally as they move across the screen R to L. Little paper bowls are stamped out of this paper. VS of huge rolls of paper on machine where they are printed with a red checked pattern. A group of designers at the paper manufacturer's sit around a table and discuss the pattern of paper plates; a designer works on a rosebud pattern; various shots of paper plates being made and coming off rollers in the factory. Paper cups are made on the machines. Very good machine shots for both plates and cups. Several good shots of food being served out by dinner ladies in what looks like cafeteria kitchen: CUs fruit cocktail is put into paper bowls; fish and chips onto paper plates. A couple sit at a table and eat with disposable crockery and cutlery from a check paper tablecloth. | |
