| Description: | GAZETTE "Portsmouth. To the immortal memory of Nelson! greatest of all sailors - the old Victory hoists, once again, his famous signal 'England expects...'." Portsmouth, Hampshire. Sailors in ranks with rifles stand in Portsmouth docks beside the famous warship HMS Victory. As the National Anthem ('God Save the King') plays pan up to the rigging of the ship where signal flags reads out Admiral Nelson's famous signal 'England expects every man to do his duty' from the Battle of Trafalgar. On board ship a wreath is placed on the deck by an officer, officer and men salute. Though executing a perfect victory over the French, taking about 20 of theirs without losing a ship, Nelson was killed in the battle by a sniper (Nelson insisting on appearing on deck in full regalia), October 21, 1805. | |
