| Description: | When the transit wheels grind to a stop in New York City it's world-wide news. Mayor John Lindsey sets an example for most New Yorkers when he leaves reporters dropping behind as he walks from his mid town hotel to City Hall. Not in decades has the Brooklyn Bridge across the East River been so crowded with pedestrians. Along with other river crossing it is jammed with workers form Brooklyn and Queens trudging to their jobs. Motor traffic, never a bargain in New York, is increased many fold, but the paralyzing jams that were feared never materialized. Commuters from the suburbs were able to reach the city by train and then hoof it to their office. The most miserable day of them all came when it rained from dawn to dusk. But the people took this, too, in their stride. With all odds against them New Yorkers were winning out! View of New York's skyline taken from a boat (POV).
