| Description: | TROPICAL GARDENS Exotic and tropical plants and flowers at Wannock Gardens M/S of a man walking through a conservatory at Wannock Gardens at Polegate near Eastbourne, East Sussex; lots of exotic and tropical plants are seen. C/U as he strokes the leaves of a plant which contract and quickly fold in around the stem; it has little pink pom-pom flowers. M/S and C/U of a man cross-pollinating some pink flowers; could be Gloxinias. M/Ss and C/U of the first man spraying the leaves of an Elephant Ears plant with water. C/U of the delicate pink flower of the Dipladenia Sanderai; C/U of the Hibiscus flower, panning left to show the man spraying lower parts of the plant with water. C/Us of Anthurium. M/S of a bearded man in another greenhouse; he stops to look at Begonias; C/U of this "specially propagated" variety with very large blooms in a peachy-pink colour. M/Ss and C/Us of other Begonias in bright colours. C/Us of the Golden Shower variety of Begonia in a hanging basket as the man climbs up to puff some plant insecticide on it. M/Ss and C/Us of oranges growing on a tree as a girl cuts some off and puts them in a basket. M/S of a man walking through a gate into a glass house; the Gloxinias House. He walks along past the pink flowers we saw being pollinated and stops to look at the Lillium Auratum from Japan. C/U of this flower, a lovely white lily with a yellow stripe along each petal and red speckles. He then turns round a hanging pot to show us the Nepenthes or Pitcher Plant from South East Asia. This is a carnivorous plant with bulbous pods hanging down that contain poison to catch and digest insects. C/Us of the pods as the man pours out the liquid. | |
