| Description: | Truman: President Leaves Door Open For Peace Talks Speaking at a dedication ceremony for the new Air Force research center, named for the late General Hap Arnold, Pres. Truman challenges the Kremlin to drop its plan of world conquest and join in a real settlement. He thus leaves the door open in reply to Russia's peace feelers, in Korea. After speech, Truman dedicates the opening of the Arnold Engineering Development Center. Large crowd of people fanning themselves in the heat. President Harry S. Truman speaks at podium (Nat sound): "Of course, we cannot promise that there will not be a world war." He calls the Soviet rulers "absolute tyrants" and strongly warns those leaders against attacks. The he says "we are ready to join in a peaceful settlement." Establishing shot - A gathering of a large crowd of people. CUS - A poster portrait of General Hap Arnold. CUS - Mrs. Arnold, widow of the war time Air Force Chief. High Angle Shot - Crowd. MS - President Harry S. Truman standing at the podium giving a speech, reaffirming his administration foreign policy. President Harry S. Truman: "Of course we can not promise that there will not be a World War. The Kremlin has it in its power to bring about such a war if it desires, it has a powerful military machine and its rulers are absolute tyrants. We can not be sure what the Soviet rulers will do, but we can put ourselves in a position to say to them, "Attack" and you will have a united resources of the free nations thrown against you. (Applause) "Attack" and you'll be confronted by a war you can not possibly win. (Applause) We are ready to join in a peaceful settlement in Korea now, just as we've always been, it must be a real settlement which fully ends the aggression and restores peace and security to the area and to the gallant people of Korea. In Korea and in the rest of the world, we must be ready to take any steps, which truly advances towards World Peace."
