The Yankees defeating the Chicago Cubs The horse race "of the Century" --- Seabiscuit versus War Admiral. Before the race, TLS jockey Charles Kurtsinger (Charley Kurtsinger) slowly rides War Admiral (horse #1), then TLS jockey George Wolf rides Seabiscuit (#2) past sign that says Pimlico. High angle shot of the heads/hats of crowd of spectators. Fairly close shot (for the era) of the two horses coming around a turn, jockeys hitting their rumps, Seabiscuit in the lead by about the length of his body at this point. LS the two horses in the final stretch, Biscuit ahead by a few lengths, and the camera pans to follow Seabiscuit in to the finish. Victory for the underdog. Glenn Cunningham was the greatest miler of his decade. Track and Field runner. Another in this era of colorful sport personalities was Don Budge, tennis superman! Don Budge in a tennis game. A year of revenge for Joe Louis. He knocks out Max Schmeling in the first round of their return bout. Speaking of sports - the "Miss America" contest was going strong then as now. As Will Shakespeare said: "Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety." All Miss America contestants lined up in their bathing suits. | |
