| Description: | 00:12:17:- Transfer of a video titled, "Una Opcion Necesaria". This is about the building of a nuclear reactor in Cuba. VO IS IN SPANISH, NEEDS TRANSLATION. Good aerials of the nuclear reactor under construction, intercut at montage speed with CU's of models of the facility and MS's interior of reactor and premises during construction; MS's of specialized construction engineers taking every necessary precaution during construction (planning and consulting and using highly sophisticated machinery). The necessity and benefits of nuclear energy in contemporary Cuban society. 00:15:51:- montage of nuclear energy beneficiaries: MS of a little boy undergoing a CAT scan; tight LS of several industrial smokestacks spewing smoke and soot (you were expecting Crunchberries?); CU of wheat growing in a field; CU of a cow chewing cud. Cut to MS's of a middle-aged woman lying on a table in an examing room, doing exercise as a thermo-radiation detector monitors and observes her heartrate; CU's of monotor relaying information. CU of a needle being inserted in a woman's arm; zoom out to MS of plembotist (phlebotomist??) and patient. Many MS's and CU's of diagnostic medical machines and diagnostic technicians at work; product shots of technology and software; more MS's of a medical examination involving x-rays and nuclear powered equipment. 00:17:15:- CU's and MS's of genetically engineered potatos and onions; MS of a pallette of bagged for purchase onions on a truck. MS's of scientists (biologists? biochemists?) working in a pharmaceutical laboratory. CU's of their equipment as scientists operate them. CU's of pharmaceuticals ready for consumers. 00:18:27:- farming montage: MS's of tractors tilling red, red Cuban earth; slo-mo travelling tight LS of a lush farming field; slo-mo CU of two oxen pulling a plow; low angle MS of a banana bunch hanging in a tree; CU's of seeds and budding vegetation. CU of a worm on a peti dish; zoom out to MS as scientist examines the bug through a microscope, followed by MS's of biology researchers running tests on vegetation in a lab. 00:19:18:- Closing montage covering all the aforementioned bases while keeping the propaganda faith clear and hopeful. Nuclear energy and you: together forever. Includes MS's of Fidel Castro (wearing his customary green military uniform) visting a research lab, talking with scientists there. 00:20:43:- The credits finish rolling but the program is not over. Another montage: MS of a male pharmaceutical scientist in a research lab, playing with test tubes and such; CU of pharmaceutical vials; panning (right) MS of a factory under construction; CU's of a man sodering a computer board, then MS of him testing out the board on some kind of wave meter; many CU's and MS's of lab technicians working with mainframe and personal computers in a laboratory; tight LS's of highway and bridge construction in Havana; MS and CU of a woman placing a CD-ROM into the disk drive of her personal computer; MS of a man operating an old video camera, zoom out to wide shot of him. 00:23:17:- panning tight LS of a stone education building, cut to MS's of teacher at blackboard and students sitting in chairs and learning about nuclear energy; cut to many MS's and CU's of students getting hands-on experience with computing and research equipment; 00:24:07:- FI zooming tight LS of the bright blue ocean on a sunny morning, indigenous vegetation in FG. MS of man operating a metal or radiation finder on the rocky coast. Cut to more MS's of research scientists working with technology in laboratories. Too much to list but many early computers and research equipment shown. 00:27:33:- More credits roll but it's not the end yet. Montage of the monolithic nuclear reactor undergoing construction: tight LS's of the plant's skeleton wrapped in scaffolding; MS's of men welding, inspecting, testing, etc. Cut to ANOTHER laboratory research montage, just to underline the importance of nuclear energy if it hasn't been underlined yet. | |
