| Description: | UNDERSTANDINGS Old and new standards of dress and behaviour are contrasted. Very funny piece on short skirts. United Kingdom Starts out with a fancy film trick montage of a bunch of overlapping shots of women's legs walking back and forth; all wear knee-length skirts. Finally everything fades out except one pair of legs who stand posed. MCU woman's legs crossed; we also see hem of her dress above the knee, and her cigarette holder. A miniature lady in Victorian dress fades into view and looks shocked by the legs. Next, woman in Edwardian costume stands at rt.; an "alter ego" - -in knee-length skirt and smoking a cigarette! Fades in and separates from her, walks to left. They turn and look at each other and the "olden days" woman is mortified. Woman in innocent looking dress with long ruffled hoop skirt. Then there's backlighting and now - -gasp! - -you can see her legs through the skirt. MCU pan left: woman from knees down in calf-length skirt walking to left across stage. MCU pan left woman wearing woolen gaiters over little boots walks on stage. Continues with more MCU panning on women's legs walking to left; as woman wearing knee-length fringed skirt, woman in above-knee skirt and mid-calf high boots, woman in narrow knee-length skirt and high-heeled pumps. MCU looking over man's shoulder at newspaper (can't see words). Fade to MS 4 women seen from waist down sitting on bench. Newspaper shot again. MCU same skirt seen with increasingly shorter hems- -"Goodness knows where they'll finish!" Finally we can't see any skirt at all, just bare legs! LS woman in bathing suit onstage. Woman sits onstage, leans back w/ legs over her head to touch floor then lifts them up in the air. LS silhouettes of 5 women.
