| Description: | Palace of Versailles Early views around the grounds of the Palace of Versailles. c. 1909. Palace was built for Louis XIV in the 1600s. GV pan on front of palace, some people strolling in front. MS fountains. Then Nice shot c. 130 degree pan across large fountain pool with many fountains, tourists seen across pool in BG. LS palace front w/ people walking along. Pan on crowds at La Colonnade, statue in center; columns and fountains alternate in BG. French soldier walking across courtyard. Hi ang shot maybe from a high window in the palace; looking toward another wing; panning left to nearby wall to show architectural details. Hi ang view looking out toward Le Grand Parc; pan over very still pools; formal gardens and woods in BG; looks like very grey overcast day. Title frame (obviously added post WWI and referring to the treaty signing) "The Hall of Mirrors- -where the World's most dramatic scene will be enacted." Good interior shot the Hall of Mirrors; looking down the hall; at slight angle; bust on pedestal in FG; light shines through tall window at end of hall. Closer shot inside hall. A man walking into hall from right. Shot in silhouette of a man (guard?) standing at French doors; he opens the doors and steps out onto balcony (outside can see view over gardens and forests; the guard looks down in both directions; comes back in and closes and locks doors. (interior shots better contrast generally) | |
