| Description: | The title is a play on the word "waste" as the opening talks about saving resources during the war years. C/Us of newspaper cuttings asking people to hand over unwanted waste such as old rubber. It immediatly changes to a woman's waist. The commentator says that if you are a "woman you'll be interested in the other kind of waist." A brief shot of women wearing historical fashions showing different waist-lines. M/S of bust with old fashioned corset attached to it. M/S of four women wearing old fashioned dresses. The dresses fade away to reveal the ladies' old fashioned underwear. Comical L/S of man in drag attempting to get himself into a corset. Drawings of historic fashions. Newspaper advertisements for corsets. Diagrams of women dressed in Gibson style underwear and nighties. Another comical scene with man dressed in old farmer's clothes. He sit next to a country girl and asks if he can put his arm around the young lady. Several good French drawing at the lengths French women went too to hide their waists. M/S of woman in underwear. A pin-up girl on a black background the ideal measurements for a woman are listed next to her. The commentator gives out the ideal measurements for a woman which includes a bust of 37 inches and a waist of 24 inches.
