| Description: | (03:10:58) Shot opens to senate hearing room and the testimony of JAMES McCORD, former security director for the Nixon Re-election Committee, who is reading from a statment (it is assumed) was authored for the committee, in it McCord describes a scenario in which during his trial for the Watergate burglary (it is assumed), BERNARD BARKER, representing the White House contacted McCord and his lawyer, BITMAN, with the intent of some how influencing his testimony (it is assumed) (03:15:05) Senator HOWARD BAKER interjects and asks that any hear-say evidence be qualified as such by McCord as he reads his statement - McCord continues to read his statement (03:18:23) McCord testifies about his contact, upon getting out of prison in July 1972, with a JACK CAULFIELD which began from a phone booth on an interstate highway, he explains thier early communication and the aliases involved (02:03:15) Footage changes-colors and tones very different, time code changes, McCord now testifying about a second break in to Democratic National Head Quarters in the Watergate complex that was ordered by JOHN MITCHELL which was for photographic reconnaissance and to fix and add more bugs to phones and rooms (02:04:23) Senator Baker asks if the same people were involved in the second and first break ins - In response McCord lists the people involved in the second break in: E. HOWARD HUNT, G. GORDON LIDDY and himself and 4 Cuban Americans of 7 that were involved in the first break in, he goes on to list their individual jobs, and in the process mentions Mr. Barker as the team capitan, McCord lists himself as the electrician (tape skips backwards in this response) (02:05:55) Skip in McCord's testimony, now he's talking about the employment of a Mr. BALWIN (?) - Tower asks McCord who supplied Balwin with a 38 pistol - McCord answer Mr. LAROO (?) and that the pistol had belonged to Jack Caufield (02:07:45) Baker asks McCord if he bugged any other buildings - McCord responds no - Baker asks if McCord knew what he was doing was illegal - McCord says he thought it was possibly legal as the Attorney General had the power to authorize wire taps for situations involving international or domestic security threats, he also goes on, upon being questioned by Baker, to say that because the Attorney General, the nation's top legal authority, was behind it this motivated him to want to participate in the wire tapping, he believed in the attorney general and figured this was being done for good reason (02:58:04) Footage switches to black and white there is a repeat of the last 30 seconds of testimony, time code changes again - McCord is reiterating his motivations for participating in the break in at Watergate | |
