| Description: | (02:31:32) Senator LOWELL WEICKER asks JAMES McCORD, Watergate wire tapper, if they had access to FBI documents - McCord says they had documents with information about the security of committee headquarters (?) in Washington D.C. and Miami (02:33:38) Weicker asks who McCord got security data from - McCord answers JOHN MARTIN who worked for the Internal Security Division at the Justice Department, he then upon being questioned lists the people who knew McCord had recieved such information: ROBERT C. ODLE, JOHN MITCHELL, ROBERT MARDIAN (02:36:22) Skip in footage, Weicker asks McCord, if Democratic party had similar information or access to similar information (Internal Security Division and FBI information) (02:37:25) Weicker asks if any of the information they got was on particular candidates or thier staff - McCord says he can remember one such piece of information which involved the GEORGE McGOVERN committee funding a tour of several members of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War on the West Coast, and this same group, VVAW, had supposedly made plans to violently disrupt the Republican National Convention (02:39:29) Weicker calls the committee's attention to the historical premise set here, with the revelation that the Internal Security Division and FBI had a hand in the presidential campaign of 1972 (02:41:08) Skip in footage - it seems this might be the beginning of McCord's testimony, footage starts in the middle of a statement which he says his participation in the Watergate operations was a "grave mistake which I regret" (02:41:53) Senator Sam Dash, Chief Counsel Majority, confirms that McCord has been federally indicted for electronic surveilance, burglary and conspiracy and is currently awaiting sentencing for these charges, Dash then asks for McCord's background - McCord gives it (02:43:25) Skip in footage - McCord is in the midst of describing his duties as director of security for the Comittee to Re-elect the President, he lists the names of his supervisors (02:44:10) Dash asks about McCord's working relationship with GORDON LIDDY - McCord gives a detailed description of conversations he had with Liddy about surveliance equipment and techniques and about the threat of violence at the Republican National Convention in 1972 (02:47:00) McCord goes on to say that after a time Liddy set up a group that would meet with and in the office of Attorney General Mitchell to dicuss political intelligence, at these meetings Liddy discussed with McCord the costs of bugging and photographic surveilance equipment that was to be employed against the Democratic party hierarchy (02:50:30) Dash wants to know specifics about operations the politcial intelligence crew carried out but is cut off by the end of the tape | |
