BERNARD BARKER, EUGENE MARTINEZ, FRANK STURGIS and VIRGIO GONZALES, the Watergate break-in crew - Dash then confirms details of McCord's participation in the two Watergate break-ins into the Democratic National Committee Headquarters (02:52:40) Dash asks why McCord did it, especially as a former law enforcement officer with a spotless record - McCord says that because Attorney General JOHN MITCHELL endorsed the operation, because the Counsel for the President JOHN DEAN also endorsed it (02:54:50) Senator HOWARD BAKER interupts McCord's response to tell him to qualify any hear-say evidence he presents as such, specifically he is saying it about McCord's statement that Dean was involved in the Watergate break-in plot (02:57:42) Skip in footage - Dash asks McCord if he would have acted any differently if Liddy had been masterminding the plots on his own - McCord says he would not have participated (02:58:59) Dash asks if McCord he did any other wiring jobs, outside of the two Watergate break-ins - McCord reponds no (02:59:17) Dash gets into McCord's salary after he was arrested - McCord tells the committee after he was arrested he got $25,000 from Mrs. Hunt for legal fees and that after this he continued to be salaried by the committee to re-elect the president at $3,000 a month (03:00:22) Dash asks if McCord recieved any pressure from anybody concerning what McCord should do at the trial - McCord lists the people who pressured him: Hunt, Mrs. Hunt, his attorney GERALD ALCH, JOHN CAULFIELD (03:03:00) McCord describes Hunt's influence on him during the trial, Hunt told McCord that executive clemency, family financial support, and a future job would await those who would take the fall and plee guilty as charged (03:04:58) McCord presents a statement he has prepared with regard to conversations he had with people trying to influence his decisions in his criminal trial, he has prepared this statement, he tells Dash, to make sure he relays his facts concerning this issue as accurately as possible (03:07:20) McCord reads his statement - McCord is interupted early on by Committee Chairman SAM ERVIN who says that McCord's statement thusfar implicates Caulfield in wrong doing but not President RICHARD NIXON who has already come up in the statement, McCord says he was told by Caulfield that Nixon was waiting for his decision about what his plea was to be, Ervin is joined by Senator EDWARD GURNEY who is very upset at the aspersions being cast by McCord's statement (03:09:42) Senator Baker calls for Jack Caulfield's subpeona and the tape cuts off before McCord returns to his letter | |
