Description:(05:32:09) Shot opens to Former Secretary Stans of the Committee for the Re-election of the President, answering the questions of Committee Chairman SAMUEL ERVINS about checks that passed through Stans' hands, were at one time deposited and cashed in a bank in Florida under BERNARD BARKER and in part ended up in the pockets of the men found breaking into the Watergate, Stans says he has never heard of Barker
(05:33:59) Ervin asks of the above mentioned money: "Don't you consider that laundering checks?" - Stans answers no, that "I call it stupidity on the part of our General Counsel (GORDON LIDDY), Stans goes on to explain how what happened with this money was not an attempt at hiding it
(05:35:14) Skip in footage - Ervin and Stans discuss the chain of the money from Barker to the Watergate break-in crew
(05:36:23) Skip in footage - Ervin questions Stans as to how they budgeted the Committee's funds if they did not have a clear idea what their expenditures were going to
(05:37:23) Skip in footage - Majority Counsel SAM DASH asks JEB STUART MAGRUDER about the original formulation of the Watergate break-in/Liddy plan and who was involved
(05:40:30) Magruder tells the story of how he met Attorney General MITCHELL and Mr. LAROO (?) and approved with them the funds that Liddy wanted for the Whitewater operation, how they felt the information gained though it would be valuable
(05:41:34) Magruder describes for Dash the approval process and actual on-paper Whitewater plan description
(05:43:00) Magruder explains for Dash specifically what the plan/project was: entry into the Democratic Committee's National HQ, and if all went well entry into the Democratic Presidential Candidate's Campaign HQ and entry in the Fountain Bleu Hotel in Miami, Magruder goes on to tell the committee how he gave Liddy the go ahead and told Sloan that Liddy was authorized to access a quarter million dollars of the budget
(05:45:00) Dash asks Magruder if upon Liddy's first money request for $83,000 HUGH SLOAN had asked that Magruder authorize this expenditure - Magruder explains how Sloan's request caused some waves, and how they flattened out
(05:45:57) Dash and Magruder discuss the first relays Magruder received from Liddy concerning the first Whitewater break-in
(05:48:00) Dash and Magruder discuss the first bits of information taken from the break-in: phone recapitulations, photographs of documents - Magruder says the he took this information to Mitchell at the Committee HQ and that upon reviewing the info Mitchell reprimanded Liddy for producing worthless information at a huge cost of money
