Small tank (looks like French Renault light tank) comes toward and past on same road has a little spade symbol on tank turret. U.S.soldiers wearing gas masks; advancing to rt.; through smoke; carrying rifles w/ bayonets attached. Quick glimpse LS of soldier in smoke-, stumbling - -orabbing w/ bayonet; or stumbling. MS Soldiers in ditch or trench, stand w/ rifles, looking out. Then soldiers walk through bombed area w/ flattened structure in clearing, smoke coming from something in BG; one soldier picks up German helmet. Brief shot desolate burned battlefield. Corpse in woods (may be posed). American soldiers pass by; w/ pistols- -searching woods; one looks at the body. Next; pan left on military cemetery; then pan rt on the burnt battlefield. MS soldiers pass by in different directions searching woods - - dense thicket of small trees. MLS pan on soldiers on hillside in wooded area, keeping very still w/ rifles ready, one crouches in front of cave opening; some crouched or lying on hill, some in dugouts. LS soldiers running across a street in bomb-damaged village, with body on ground near abandoned tank - -same French-made tank seen before. Back to earlier scene bombed area at edge of woods. CU/MS Soldiers sawing tree in sections - working in pairs w/ double saws. Soldiers in gas masks run through smoke, rt to left. Pan cemetery again with crosses of various designs and sizes.
