Very jazzy title sequence with musical notes and glittered letters. Wilfred Pickles is trying to find out what people want in the way of entertainment. He asks a man who is cleaning windows. Does he like Jazz Bands? No, he likes something with a tune to it. He likes Troise and his Mandoliers. Pickles writes it down in his notebook. We then see the band playing. C/Us of Troise and some of the musicians. One of the musicians sings and a woman at a window looking wistful is superimposed on the picture. He serenades her. The song is probably called "Romany". Wilfred Pickles asks a woman in uniform who she likes. She likes the radio conjuror Sirdani. "Don't be fright" seems to be his catch phrase. He talks a lot in pidgin English. He gets someone up from the audience and does a "pick a card" trick involving in large sword. The man throws the cards up in the air and Sirdani catches the two he has chosen on the sword. Sirdani shows how he can take of the man's waistcoat without taking off his jacket. The man is laughing as Sirdani pulls him around a bit. He pulls the waistcoat through the sleeve of his jacket. He then produces the man's underpants as well! He puts a glass in a paper bag. Holds it out in front of him and bursts the paper bag. Pickles asks a young boy who he likes - answer: Syd Seymour and his Mad Hatters. The band performs a song. Syd (if it is Syd) does a silly dance in a very large suit as he conducts the band. He puts on a sailor's hat when the band begin to play the theme tune to Popeye. Another member of the band (perhaps he is Syd?) sings a song and more funny business ensues. C/U of the drummer. More nutty dancing. He is pulled offstage on a little cart. | |
