| Description: | GAZETTE "Australia. Wild Man! ... filmed for the first time. Pathe Gazette - with these exclusive & sensational pictures - takes you to heart of the Central Australian Desert, to see & hear aboriginal man in his native state." Central Australian Desert, Australia. MS of Australian aborigines in Western dress mounting their camels in the desert landscape. The voiceover describes the Aborigines as prehistoric beings who have not progressed one degree since the dawn of creation (extremely racist and Eurocentric narration!). C/U of aboriginal man seated on the ground. Men on camels approaching through the scrub. Back view of naked aboriginal standing with a stick and with boomerang. Group of aborigines walk through the scrub. Two groups of aboriginal men come together in the bush. The move around each other in some kind of traditional dance - the voice over describes its 'barbaric glamour'. A group of men bang on the ground with sticks as part of some traditional ceremony. Good C/Us of some of the tribesmen show signs of ritual scars on their bodies. Good scenes of body painting or decoration. Sound now cuts to audio of tribal song recorded on Kinetoscope that lets us hear the chanting of the aboriginal men during their ceremony - corroboree (the sound is not too clear). Several of them are decorated with eagle feathers. | |
