CU a red-breasted duck sits on the grass, asleep, with beak tucked in its wing. CU same type of Duck standing and pecking the ground. MS Group of geese (poss. Hawaiian geese) by pen panning along R. to L. wire fence. MS Ducklings entering the water and swimming. MS Ducks by wire fence and waterside. They both get into water swim and get on land again. Wildlife workers Maureen Bower and Doctor John Beer, in white coats, walking R to L; Dr. Beer carries a net. MS Doctor catches a duck in net. MCU he pulls duck out of net and hands it to Bower , then gets eye drops out of a box. CUs as Dr. gives eye drops to the duck. MS they release the duck back into the stream. MS pan w/ a duck running fast and flapping its wings. MS Bower with medical tray walking along river side she puts tray down and pan R to Dr. Beer wading in water carrying large hook. MS Four swans in water. MLS Dr Beer hooks one swan round the neck and pulls it towards him and holds it, the swan struggling a bit; he carries swan to Ms. Bower. CUs as she puts some powder on swan's head to prevent feather lice. Beer puts swan back into water and it swims away; other swans in BG. Man examining wind direction finder. C.S. Another man taking duck from basket and he hands duck to other man who looks at tags on ducks feet while other man takes notes. CU Ducks head pans to ducks foot with ring round it. CU Of boxed direction finder. Hand picks it out of the box. MS Man throwing duck into the air we watch it fly away and man follows it with binoculars. CU Man looking through binoculars. MS Rear view two men watching birds going away one takes notes from direction finder and looks through it. CU Man looking through direction finder. LS Bird in air over treetops. C.S. Man taking mallard duck from basket. C.S. Two men one holding duck one attaches bulb to its foot. CU Bulb putting on ducks foot with sticky tape panning to ducks head. MS Man giving duck to companion who throws it into the air we follow duck across hedge and over trees. Two workers catch a duck in a net so they can give it some eye drops. Workers Maureen Bower and Doctor John Beer catch a swan on a river; Maureen sprinkles powder on the swan's head to prevent feather lice. Dr Matthews and Chris Beale fling a Mallard into the air in a field and watch it fly off through binoculars, making notes and checking a direction finder. This is part of their research into why most Mallards fly off in a north-westerly direction. They take another Mallard from a basket and tape a tiny electric bulb and battery pack to the leg of a Mallard before letting it fly off. | |
