| Description: | WITH LOVE FROM MUM Mother writes to son on her birthday & goes out for a drink with his friends to remember him. London. Commentary takes form of letter written by woman on her birthday to her serviceman son who is overseas. Various C/Us of old lady writing letter at kitchen table. Various shots of the woman walking down streets (looks like East End?). Various shots of woman buying fish from fishmonger's stall, she chats with the fishmonger. Various shots of woman buying meat from butcher, she shows him the letter. Good shot of street market. The old lady buys flowers from a stall, he also looks at the letter. She also goes to a knife-grinder and greengrocers, she shows each of them the letter. The butcher, the grocer and the other stall holders are friends of her son. C/U of woman writing letter. C/U of clock on wall of public house. Various shots of woman at bar. The pub looks quite dingy - very spit and sawdust. She has invited all the stall holders she spoke to for a drink to celebrate her birthday. When they arrive she buys them all pints of mild and bitter and a gin for herself, she pays for them using a pound note sent by her son. At nine o'clock they all raise their glasses and drink to their absent friend. C/U of untouched pint of beer on the bar - bought for the absent son. Very touching. | |
