| Description: | "Johannesburg - With PRINCE GEORGE IN S. AFRICA - Further unique pictures by our cameraman accompanying the Royal tour." Johannesburg, South Africa. Pan down heavily decorated street in Johannesburg. Line of cars driving slowly through street packed with people. They have come to greet Prince George, Duke of Kent who is visiting Johannesburg. The first car stops. Prince George is accompanied by a man who, judging by his robes, is the mayor. The prince inspects line of ex-servicemen. He talks to some. One has won the Victoria Cross, and is of particular interest to the Prince. Huge crowds at the square around the Cenotaph. Several excellent shots of the tightly-packed crowd. Police link arms to try to keep the crowds from overflowing. People are seen all around the square; on the roofs, verandas, windows etc. Prince waves from the dais. The Prince receives a gift from the City Council of the Transvaal Chamber of Mines. It is an elaborate gold model of the head of a mine (headgear of the mine) mounted on a type of rock found only in gold mines. The Prince shakes hands with several people. | |
