| Description: | Same as catalog # 369123 Construction; World War One. Bridge building on the Meuse River -- this bridge was important in saving Verdun. Some really nice shots of French soldiers working to construct a bridge from long poles. GV looking across water at bridge; with men putting in support poles at angle. 2 crews of men in a circle; each pulling a rope attached like spokes to one main rope; thus increasing the power of the pull by number of men; axe stuck in board in FG. DS of one of these crews; all pulling down at same time like a machine -- cool shot. Pan over to show the weight they are pulling up and dropping on top of pole to sink it in river bed. Another DS of the circle of men working. Looks like they're doing calesthenics deep knee bend type things; at any rate they're getting plenty of exercise. Engineering; labor; military. | |
