| Description: | "Wooden Fairy Tales." Preservation and restoration of Totem poles of Indians of Northwest Canada. Totem poles - carving, preservation and repainting. British Columbia, Canada MCU panning down man wearing traditional clothing incl hat w/ heart-shaped face, warm poncho w/ vivid bold design and long fringe, more fringe hanging from a knee-length skirt, and padded boots w/ similar design as the poncho. LS this man standing outside door of wooden house; he walks toward camera, climbing over pole. LS old faded totem pole lying on beach; dog walks by, then a man dressed in European clothing walks to the pole; the Indian follows. They seem to be carrying on a conversation; looks as if the one guy found the totem pole and brought the Indian man to identify it. MS the guy trying to repair the totem pole which is now lying across logs. MCU same; he is fitting a piece of a face back together. LS several tall totem poles standing up; forest and mountain in BG. MS 2 men stand at foot of totem poles; they each carry a pot of paint and are pointing at the poles, apparently discussing how they are to be painted. Pan upward on 2 poles - one has statue of man on top, a taller one has an animal. Shots of statues of animals on top of 2 other poles. Statues lying on wooden pallets - looks like fish; old house in BG. Another shot of a bunch of totem poles, w/ scattered houses in BG. | |
