| Description: | "LONDON - XMAS JUST CAN'T WAIT". Various shots of buskers parading about the streets of Bermondsey, collecting money for a Christmas party for old people. They are dressed in funny costumes (some look at bit like pearly kings and queens, some are dressed in drag) and sing 'My Old Man' while passers-by drop money in their collection boxes. Several shots of film star actress / dancer Leslie Caron switching on the Oxford Street Christmas lights from inside department store Bourne and Hollingsworth. Leslie looks very glamorous and has a fabulous beehive hairdo. Press photographers take her picture. Various shots of the lights at night stretching from Marble Arch to St Giles Circus including those outside Selfridges. The Mayor of Westminster is seen with the Regent Street Traders at the switching on of their Christmas lights. Shots of the Regent Street lights. At the Lyceum we see various shots of dancers twisting on the dance floor in the first Twist Championship of Great Britain. Among them are John Russell and Rita Scahill. Great shots of people doing the twist. Some put in fancy moves that look more related to lindy hop and jitterbug. One girl wears a lurex belted cat suit. Shirley Beard and partner Victor Madden twist the night away. They are awarded first prize by judges including Lionel Blair. Miss South Africa presents the couple with a check. | |
