Exclusive Kennedy Footage
Available from the WPA Film Library
This
year marks the 40th anniversary of the
assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Often
adored, occasionally maligned, but always
fascinating, President Kennedy stands as one of
the most profiled personalities of the 20th
century.
The
WPA Film Library boasts an unrivaled collection of
JFK footage. Whether you're interested in the
Kennedy dynasty, the Presidential years, or the
fateful events of November 22, 1963, WPA has the
right clip for you.
Color? B&W? A rare, seldom-seen gem? No problem.
WPA offers enormous collections such as the
British Pathe Newsreel Library, WETA's Hearings on
the Kennedy Assassination, or smaller, yet very
potent libraries, among them a rare and noteworthy
collection shot by a Texas cameraman, on and
around November 22, 1963.
Highlights include:
-
Over
50 hours of investigative hearings conducted by
the House Select Committee on Assassinations
into the death of President John F. Kennedy,
which resulted in Chairman Louis Stokes of Ohio
surmising a possible second shooter.
-
Very rare COLOR footage of Lee Harvey Oswald
being harassed by police for passing out
pro-Castro literature in New Orleans; Oswald
being interviewed in 1963 at WDSU-TV in New
Orleans; an Oswald press conference, during
which he is visibly stunned to learn he's been
charged with JFK's murder; interviews with and
COLOR footage of Dallas District Attorney Henry
Wade; Margueritte Oswald; Lee Harvey Oswald's
landlady; and Ruth Payne, confidante of Lee
Harvey Oswald's wife Marina.
-
Stunning color footage of the Warren Commission
and the Secret Service reenacting the JFK
Assassination from various angles, including
those captured by Orville Nix and Abraham
Zapruder. There is also behind the scenes
footage of a 1970s Hollywood reenactment of the
JFK assassination.
-
Coverage of the trials and appeals of Jack Ruby,
including his attorneys Joe Tonahill, Phil
Burleson, Melvin Belli and Clayton Fowler. Very
RARE COLOR footage of Ruby being escorted to the
courtroom and listening to proceedings, and 1967
funeral arrangements for Ruby.
-
Coverage before and after JFK's assassination,
including President and Mrs. Kennedy arriving in
Dallas; men directing people out of the rail
yard behind the grassy knoll shortly after
assassination; police flooding the Texas School
Book Depository; the immediate hours of
investigation; various witnesses like Howard
Brennan, and briefly detained suspects like
Donald Wayne House, who bore a resemblance to
Oswald.
- A
15-minute compilation film of footage shot by
amateur cameramen who had their 8mm cameras
rolling in Dallas the day JFK was shot. It
follows President Kennedy from his arrival at
Fort Worth airport through the Dallas
motorcade's arrival at Dealey Plaza.
