"This is about some of the more important aspects of Dostoevsky's life. He was born in 1821 to a poor family on the outskirts of Moscow. He had a harsh upbringing and his mother died of tuberculosis at the age of 37. After graduating from military school, he resigned and started writing. He was arrested and imprisoned for illegal discussions about socialism and was saved from execution only by the actual last-minute reprieve from the Emperor. He was sentenced to hard labor in Siberia and then returned after many years to St. Petersburg, where he wrote about the poor and unfortunate people living in that huge city, based on characters and situations in his own neighborhood, notably "Crime and Punishment". His over great novels were, of course, "The Idiot" and "The Brothers Karamozov". He was an outstanding artist and moralist who broadened the boundary of man's spiritual existence."
