Felix Greene interviewing an adult Caucasian male American pilot lying in military hospital bed. Greene asks the pilot to talk about getting shot down. Pilot states his plane was hit after bombing his target, somewhere in front of the instrument panel. Smoke filled the cockpit and he was forced to eject. He remembers landing in bamboo thicket area and discovering his right leg and left arm was broken. He was quickly captured after landing. North Vietnamese saw he was injured and he was administered first aid. Greene asks if the captors were hostile or friendly, and the pilot replies that he was relieved to see they were friendly, providing him with medical attention and water.

Felix Greene (o/s) notes that with the men going serving in the North Vietnamese Army, the it falls to women to take over farming duties. Only when the work is especially heavy do soldiers come to help. Greene adds that with the frequencies of daily bombing runs over the country, work doesn't stop unless the bombing comes too close.

Felix Greene (o/s) narrates that only occasionally is modern machinery seen in North Vietnam, usually imported from China or the Soviet Union. It can also be destroyed by a single bomb. Felix Greene (o/s) notes that an installation like that can easily be destroyed in a single bombing run. VS of four adult Vietnamese women, two on either side of a rocky inlet, work as team in sync by using strings and two bucket to scoop river water into a irrigation ditch. The Brigade numbers approximately 100,000 youths between 16 and 22 year old, who volunteer for three years with no pay.
